INTENDED USE
The geneMAP™ HLA-B*57:01 Detection Kit is a rapid and accurate real-time PCR test for detecting the HLA-B*57:01 allele, a specific variant of the human leukocyte antigen B (HLA-B) gene strongly associated with abacavir hypersensitivity.
Abacavir, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, is used in combination antiretroviral therapy for treating HIV infecti- on. However, abacavir can cause a severe and potentially life-threatening hypersensitivity reaction, which limits its use. This reaction is strongly linked to the presence of the HLA-B*57:01 allele. Screening for HLA-B*57:01 can help clinicians identify patients at risk of experiencing abacavir-induced hypersensitivity, ensuring safer treatment decisions.
